What is your sofa style?

When faced with the decision of what kind of sofa to purchase for our homes, you can get a little overwhelmed. There are so many types and styles out there that it is understandable that you can quickly get information overload.

To help you with your choice, you can find information on the different styles of sofas at SofaStore.com below.

Why buy a leather sofa?

Naturally resistant to staining, spills and wear and tear, it’s one of the most popular sofa types with families and those with busy lives, simply due to how easy they are to care for and how durable they are. A quality leather sofa is very nearly a living thing in your home – it will react to the temperatures around it, keeping you cool in the summer and warming up nicely with your body heat in the winter.

The beauty of leather is that it doesn’t get ‘worn out’ – it gets ‘worn in’. Like a favourite pair of jeans, our 100% semi-analine leather will gain a softness and patina unmatched to other fabric types. The material softens and relaxes its shape, giving your sofa more comfort and character. It actually looks better the longer you have it and a good quality leather sofa will last for years.

We use two different treatments on our hides. Our corrected grain leather is hand buffed and dyed to remove any of the hide’s natural imperfections. The grain is then embossed onto the hide and a protective coating is added, making it more resistant to fading, scratching and staining. This produces a highly durable surface with good elasticity and retains its shape for longer and makes it ideal for family use.

Our semi-analine leather as used in our Spencer range is a higher quality hide with slightly less treatment and pigmentation. This gives it a more natural lived-in look with the beautiful variation of the hides to shine through. It also gives it a softer, warmer feel.

As with all our sofas, we use solid hardwood in our frames and often use metal bracing for extra support. The feet are made from the same solid hardwood as our furniture ranges, perfect for that made to match look.

In some of our ranges, we use a high density foam wrapped in blown fibre for superior support and comfort. This means a firmer sit which retains its shape beautifully. In others, we use individually springs wrapped in calico pockets. This offers excellent support, comfort and shape retention.

Finally, we only ever use 100% real leather all over our leather sofas; there is no skimping on the backs and sides - when we say all over, we really mean it!

Would a corner sofa be right for me?

If you wish to maximise space in your living room but not compromise on style, a corner sofa might be right for you. A corner sofa forms a right angle, allowing it to fit comfortably into the corner of a room. Some come with adjustable segments, allowing you to create different sofa lengths, suitable to the individual room in which it will reside. For those that do not allow adjustment, you can still maximise the space in a room by purchasing either right hand or left hand sofa styles, allowing you to choose which side is longer to fit your room best.

The biggest draw of a corner sofa is the sheer amount of seating it allows. For large families or those that like to entertain or even those who just like to stretch out, it allows you to maximise your space, making it easier than ever to suit your space needs. They are also incredibly stylish with a myriad of fabrics and styles to choose from, whether you prefer something cosy and comfortable or sleek and sophisticated.

Larger rooms or open space areas are ideal for corner sofas. Pulled away from the walls, they will create a natural line delineating the seating area. Smaller sofas could just get lost or make a larger room look cluttered whilst a large corner sofa commands attention, making it the star of your living area.

One thing to bear in mind, however, when purchasing a corner sofa is not just the space it will take up in the room itself but also the access required to get it into the room! This is why measuring each doorway and hallway it will pass through on its way to its destination is so vitally important.
